I feel like I've already tried everything. I’m starting to doubt whether anything will work.
This is different.
You’re not alone in feeling that way. There’s a good chance that what you’ll be learning about on this platform is quite different from what you’ve tried already. Countless thousands of families have used these practices to reduce conflict and strengthen relationships.
My kid won't really talk to me about their feelings… or anything else!
We hear that quite often.
Some kids don’t talk because they think they’re in trouble…or because they think you’re mad…or because you’re trying to talk with them about their concerning behavior…or because you’re trying to talk with them in the heat of the moment. Those are non-starters for a lot of kids. When you’re using the guidance we provide on this platform, those are gone.
My child doesn't have a lot of concerning behaviors. Is this still for us?
That’s up to you.
Every kid has challenges to overcome, some way more than others. While the model on this platform started with kids with behavioral challenges — in Dr. Greene’s book The Explosive Child — it’s been applied to tons of kids who don’t have major behavioral challenges. Hard to believe, but, as you’ll learn, there’s really not a huge difference between kids who do and don’t have behavioral challenges. Since the first module is free — and provides a good jumping-off point for other content on the platform — you should get a decent idea about whether those resources would be helpful to you and your child.
Is there any research behind Dr. Greene's approach?
A ton.
The model – Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) – is evidence-based, which is the gold standard for psychosocial treatment. Unfortunately, a lot of the advice thrown at parents isn’t backed by any research at all.
We don’t really think of this platform as a course…it’s more of a resource. The first section – Core Content – gets you started on ways to understand and help your child through challenges…that’s about 2.5 hours worth of content. There and dozens of lessons in each of the other courses, ranging in duration from 10 to 30 minutes. You’ll be picking the ones relevant to your situation. But our goal is for you to ultimately become as independent as possible in using the CPS model with your child. So the platform is here for as long as you need it.
Meet Dr. Ross Greene
Press Play: Welcome to Raising Human Beings
Dr. Greene is a clinical psychologist who’s been working with kids and families for about four decades. That means he’s been around the block, though his approach to raising kids (he has two of his own) isn’t old-fashioned at all. But it is backed by a great deal of research and, even more importantly, his experience with all kinds of kids of all ages. He knows parenting guidance can be confusing and contradictory, and he’s really good at cutting out the fluff and psychobabble and helping parents focus on both the big and small pictures in ways that are practical and easy to understand.
